A Study On Constraints Responsible For Technological Gap In Sugarcane Cultivation In Western U.P.
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study was conducted in Bijnore and Meerut district of western Uttar Pradesh to know the major constraints responsible for technological gap in sugarcane cultivation. The causes responsible for gap in the adoption of sugarcane of sugarcane practices have been computed on the basis of information obtained from the respondents i.e. sugarcane growers in western U.P. The total sample size was of 240 respondents from four blocks of both districts. The data were tabulated and analysed through percentage, mean score and rank order. The study revealed that, the scarcity of labour and awareness of different soil activities arethe biggest constraints of soil preparation. The high cost of improved implements was the top most constraint in selection of improved implements followed by lack of knowledge about selection of improved verities. Lack of knowledge in seeds treatment was the top most constraints in seed treatment, lack of knowledge involved in seed rate was top most constraints in seed rate and spacing. The other major constraints responsible for technological gap in sugarcane cultivation are; the high cost involved in method of planting, unawareness about use of balance manures and fertilizers, lack of knowledge in proper irrigation facilities, high cost involved in chemicals ,equipments and labour charges for cultural operations, the lack of knowledge in plant protection measure, the unsuitability of policy for sugarcane supply at harvesting time and lack of knowledge involved in ratoon management etc.
