Assessment of antioxidant activity and Phytochemical analysis of leaf and peel fractions Of Punica granatum
Main Article Content
Abstract
The antioxidant activity of Punica granatum using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydazyl (DPPH) free radical -scavenging assay , showed that the ethyl acetate, water and n- butanol fractions (IC50= 0.01, 4.44, 14.20 μg/ml) had stronger activity than crude methanolic extracts and standard (IC50= 24 and 42 μg/ml). The IC 50 value of ethyl methyl ketone, solvent ether and petroleum ether fractions were 26.37. 60.19 And 173.86 respectively. On the other hand, n-butanol and water fractions of Punica granatum peel showed highest activity than other ones. The ethyl acetate fractions showed lowest activity. The IC 50 of these fractions are 0.61, 1.6, 7.0, 9.8, 21.4, 28.0, 42.8, 153.9 μg/ml for nbutanol, water, methanol, solvent ether, ethyl methyl ketone, petroleum ether, ascorbic acid and ethyl acetate. The results of present study suggest that Punica granatum leaves and peel fractions had highest activity than crude methanolic extracts and standard ascorbic acid.
